A Word From Joel January 5, 2025
Yesterday morning, six Presbyterians left Columbus for San Jose, Costa Rica. Covenant has a rich history of supporting mission and development around the globe, but we have not gone on a mission trip for many years. Our team has been preparing for many months now through reading, discussion, and prayer. In San Jose, we will be met by PCUSA mission co-workers, Mark and Jenny Hare who have been working in Costa Rica for many years now. Over the course of the week, we will visit and learn about community movements struggling for their right to safe water. We will visit and learn from a women’s group whose goal is to end violence against women, and we will work with Universidad Biblica Latinoamericana, are engaged with earth care and climate justice. Our hope is to learn if a long-term partnership between Covenant and these ministries is worthwhile. This trip was made possible by grants from the Permanent Ministries Fund and the Deacons. We appreciate your prayers for safe travels, a rich learning experience, and for the courage to follow God who does new things.
